Corcoran Neighborhood, Minneapolis
What defines a neighborhood? Is it the streets drawn on a map? Is it the buildings that line those streets? No, it’s the people who come together that give life to a community.
The Corcoran neighborhood is bordered on the north by Lake Street. It extends south to 36th avenue. On the west is Cedar Avenue and along the east runs the Hiawatha Light Rail. Similarities can be seen between the north and south border yet in the length of those five blocks runs a gradient of diversity. Mass transit, South High School and the YWCA bring people here, but not necessarily to stay. As for the residents, at the center is one building where they all can come to play – The Corcoran Park.
