First Open Mic
by Rachele on Sep.25, 2009, under Blog
Monday, August 17, was my first time reading at the Artists’ Quater in Saint Paul, Minn. It was open mic night. I was number 11 out of 15 slots. It’s free cover so why not. I’ve been attending Monday nights at the AQ since May. Every first Monday of the month is a Soap-boxing hosted slam event. The poets always look so calm. I on the other hand, assulted the audience with agitation. I was so nervous the words just came out as though my mind had taken a seat in the crowd to watch the performance and my lips were left to do the motion. But I read. And, at open mic night, people respect you for just getting on stage. We’ll see how next Monday goes. Maybe I’ll have some video to show.
